UK CUSTOMS:
ARE YOU READY FOR THE CHANGE?

All importers and exporters who participate in customs declarations in the UK need to be ready for the change from CHIEF to the new Customs Declaration Service (CDS).

On the 1st of October 2022 the current CHIEF system which handles all imports into the UK will switch over to the new CDS system (Customs Declaration Service). All exports will transition from CHIEF to CDS by the 1st of April 2023.

The current CHIEF system has been in operation from 1994 so the UK government have chosen to update this system and replace it with CDS from the 1st of October 2022.

What do these changes mean?

All customs declarations for goods imported or exported into/from the UK will then need to be entered to Customs through the new Customs Declaration Service system.

Phase one:
UK import declaration submissions through CHIEF
will cease as of Friday, 30th September 2022

Phase two:
UK export declaration submissions through CHIEF
will cease as of Friday, 31st March 2023

What do you need to do?

Register for a Government Gateway Account,

Apply for an EORI number,

Register for the Customs Declaration Service,

Add a direct debit for your deferment account on CDS, don’t cancel the CHIEF direct debit until the transitional period is over. (If applicable)

The Benefits of LCL Groupage Services

Due to the continuing disruptions caused by Covid-19, shipping services have declined; this has caused delays and freight increases, particularly for Full Container Loads (FCL). As a result, LCL groupage currently presents an excellent option for getting goods where they need to go, as it provides a better service and will give you a rate that relates to the actual volume and weight you’re shipping.

How Long Does LCL Shipping Take?

Our weekly groupage service to the Middle East and the Indian Sub-Continent will safely and quickly get your goods to their destination. We now have a weekly sailing to Jebel Ali, Dubai, with a transit time of just 23 days and an additional ten days to outports in the Arabian Gulf and Indian Sub-Continent. To find out more about our groupage services, contact Jake Taylor today on 01932 565616 or Frankie Hubert on 07931 507084.
